Leak Detector
Leak detectors can be used to sense when a robot might be operating in an unsafe or humid environment. If a robot commonly operates in or around water, the robot may contain a
Leak Detector circuit. A leak detector circuit will allow the robot to move to a safer place, trigger a warning alarm, or shutdown to prevent damage.
Leak detectors usually contain a pad or a set of electrodes that when immersed in a slightly conductive liquid, can detect the change in resistance and notify the robot. Some detectors use a float (similar to that in a gast tank), that when water enters a chamber, forces the float up and triggers a switch. Devices that uses leak detectors include automatic sub-pumps, or bilge pumps (used to pump out the water inside a boat). Underwater ROV's (Remotely Operated Vehicles) contain leak detection sensors to notify their operators that their ROV is leaking.
