Roomba Basic Functionality is Disabled After SCI Commands
Question
I am writing a robot-app game for Roomba.
I am facing a weird problem with my robot-app.
Whenever the game is finished
Roomba is stuck:
- All its LEDs are turned OFF;
- Cleaning and other buttons are disabled;
- Can’t can't turn the Roomba OFF;
I am very close to finish my game and upload it to RobotAppStore.
Please help me to fix this issue.

Regarding your question, the answer is very simple:
Your robot-app has changed Roomba’s mode into a “Safe mode” or “Full mode”.
Just change Roomba’s mode back to “Passive mode”, when your robot-app is terminated, by sending the “Start” command (128) to re-enable Roomba’s basic functionality.
When Roomba is in “Safe mode” or “Full mode” the following symptoms occur:
- Roomba buttons (Clean/ Spot...) buttons are disabled;
- Remote Control buttons are disabled;
- The LEDs are turned OFF;
- The charging is terminated;
In generally, in order to change Roomba’s mode, use the following commands:
- 128- Start command. Use this command to change Roomba’s mode form any mode to “Passive mode”;
- 130- “Control command.
Use this command when you have Roomba 4XX, Create or Dirt dog series, and you want to change Roomba’s mode from “Passive mode” to “Safe mode”.
For other Roomba models, use this command to change Roomba’s mode from “Passive mode” or “Full mode” to “Safe mode”; - 131- Safe command.
